Institute of Pennsylvania Hospital. Anna's therapist recommended she be evaluated at a local private psychiatric hospital by a physician who specialized in Multiple Personality Disorder. Again, Anna's father was able to establish private insurance coverage for her. The physician agreed to take her as a patient, and on January 7, 1987, Anna was transferred to the Institute of Pennsylvania Hospital. Early in her stay at the Institute, Anna called her former therapist, pleading to see her because "the baby wants to talk to you." Permission for this visit was denied by her physician. During her seven month stay he noted no indications of a dissociative disorder. Anna's time at the Institute however was cut short. Her doctor's notes indicate the insurance carrier's reviewer seemed "unable to understand non-pharmacological treatment" and that this "presented an ongoing problem". The Institute was notified Anna's coverage would end as of august, 1987. She was then discharged to Norristown State Hospital in Norristown, Pennsylvania. |
