St. Louis, Missouri. In the summer of 1975, Anna moved to St. Louis, Missouri to live with her aunt C, a psychiatric nurse, uncle D (father's side) and their three children. She was less than fifteen years old. While living with them she attended special school district programs and was treated by a private psychiatrist. She was hospitalized twice, against her will, at St. Vincents Hospital, and forced to take psychotropic medications. After a couple of years her aunt and uncle could no longer care for her, and she was sent to live with her Dad and his new wife and child, first in Montclair New Jersey and then in St. Louis. During this period she continued in special school district programs, completing the eleventh grade. She was recognized for her artwork and received several awards for her ability to excel on the school's track teams. Her problems at home continued however, and in October of 1978, at the age of eighteen, she was sent to Deaconess Hospital. She was given Insulin and electroconvulsive ("shock") treatments, consenting under threat of being placed in a state institution. Five weeks later Anna's aunt A and Aunt M (mother's side) intervened to legally halt treatment. Anna was discharged. Unable to return to her father's home, she traveled to San Francisco to live with her Aunt A (mother's side). | |||||
