Oregon State Hospital. In August of 1981, when she was nearly twenty one, Anna traveled north to Oregon for her older sister Mary's wedding. After the wedding, she stayed in Oregon to be closer to her sister, could not find shelter, began to injure herself and within days was committed again to acute psychiatric hospitalization. She was then sent to Oregon State Hospital. After nine months, she was discharged into the community, living for several weeks at various residential treatment centers until the last one notified her parents and sister that they would not be able to continue working with her, and advised longer term care. Upon learning that Anna's father's health insurance would cover the cost, her older sister and her mother arranged for Anna to be treated in a private psychiatric hospital located closer to her mother, in Towson, Maryland. She moved there on August 3, 1982.
